All 2 handed polearms are polearms, only 2 handed weapons are axes/maces/swords. Nothing beside the 3 I mentioned are counter as 2 handed. It improves based on weapon type and 1 handed spear is a polearm as polearm is 1 or 2 handed. It's same for thrown javelins in melee, they count as polearms too.

The axes are generally worse, a good twohanded axe is better than a bad twohanded sword, the bonus vs shields will rarely (but not never) help. Not sure really but it the glaive in bannerlord is essentially the same as the hafted blade in warband. Great on foot against infantry swinging but can also be used against cav thrusting even with shield.
