2. Tractor. John Deere 4020 Gas. It's sitting in the five inches of snow that fell last night. I live in southern Minnesota. I'm clearing CRP land so it can be planted. Of course it stalled as far from the road as possible. Brought in a mechanic. Changed the rotter, wasn't getting a spark to the plugs.4020 starting problems. My '64 4020, has issues with not turning over fast enough to start. Reasonably new starter, new batteries 550 cca, new cable clamps. Had a mech. look at it, and came down to ground strap corrosion. Installed new ground strap, (24v pos. ground system) connected right to diff bolt, after filing to clean metal.The John Deere 5.9 L, 5,930 cm 2, (362 cu·in) six-cylinder LPG / gasoline engine with 108.0 mm (4.25 in) of cylinder bore and 108.0 mm (4.25 in) of piston stroke. When this tractor was evening used daily we never had any trouble with the steering. Now that it only gets used very little we have steering trouble. If the sump screen was "completely plugged" you need to pull the final drives, repair the brakes and clean the rear end housing out and THEN start to sort out your hydraulic problems. I push the starter button and I hear the starter motor turning but the bendix does not engage the flywheel... or it is every so slightly engaging that it doesn't even sound like it's grinding.
