Try placing the vampires in a valid tile. Vampire castles cannot be placed on resources (Rice, Iron, etc) or features (Floodplains, Volcanic Soil, Woods, etc). For city center you just have to not attack with him from there, for the castle, I feel like the best is to move them away to heal, just in case something attacks there. You can check by adding up the amount of production your actual worked tiles are giving you.
