Mar 13, 2024 · Had we not made a depth and location adjustment, we might have only had 2 or 3 Walleyes. Those two adjustments made all the different though and we were headed to the launch by 1:00. The water temperatures were in the 50’s, 54-57 degrees and we never hit 58, kinda cool but the fish were active. Over 5 feet of water but less than 10, however ... The perch have been extremely hit and miss. They don’t seem to be schooled up at all. Couple here and a couple there, but when you do get one it’s been a tank! On the flip side of things. If the ice goes to crap early here on Devils Lake. The river back in Bismarck is beginning to open up. As soon as I leave here, I’ll dust off the boat ...

Typically, the early ice bite on Devils Lake is pretty good. The fish always seem to be in the same areas year in and year out at this time. The mid-section of winter can vary from year to year. This winter it has been extremely difficult to find a consistent bite day in and day out. It will rebound here for sure, always does.

The only problem with fishing in deeper than 33 feet of water, they are probably all dead.
